Mickey Rourke is starring in a new advertising campaign for Nissan — alongside Breaking Bad star Raymond Cruz, Rocky actor Carl Weathers and Mexican actress Teresa Ruiz.
The Tough Guys campaign, which includes a 6-minute short and four spots, tells the story of Rourke and Weathers travelling to Mexico in a van to make a special delivery. Weathers plays The Colonel, while Rourke plays The Florist (an ex-Green Beret with a green thumb).
After visiting The Florst at his flower shop, The Colonel persuades him to get back in the game, and they travel across the border (in a Nissan NV cargo van – with V8 ‘huevos’) where they get into a bit of a sticky situation.
Raymond Cruz plays the baddie Calvera, who is power hungry and has low blood sugar (a lethal combination, apparently), and quickly finds ‘El Padre’ hidden in a box in a back of the van.
But he isn’t accounting for La Condesa, played by El Padre’s daughter Teresa Ruiz, who doesn’t like Calvera intruding on her territory especially since her father was the delivery she’s been waiting for.
The campaign aims to highlight Nissan’s bumper-to-bumper 5-year/100,000 mile commercial van warranty, which it describes as “America’s best”. It will be shown on YouTube and Facebook, as well as in print media.
As well as The Delivery short film, there are also four shorter spots which expand on parts of the original commercial. The
In a nice touch, you can even listen to Raymond Cruz read the actual warranty in his trademark baddie voice.
