Ever driven a manual and kept your hand resting on the gear lever as you cruise along? Well, you shouldn’t. Why? Because it will save you cash. That’s just one of the nuggets of wisdom from Jason Fenske at Engineering Explained in this handy new video.
In it he explains how simple bad habits that loads of drivers are guilty of can end up costing you in the long term.
Another one is staying in gear while stationary at the lights, which we’ve all done at some point. He also covers why you should never use your clutch to hold you still on a hill and prevent you rolling backwards, and gives you some other ideas on what to do instead. What about applying a lot of throttle at low engine RPM, and resting your foot on the clutch pedal while driving?
In the video Jason covers all of those and goes into the technicalities of why exactly you shouldn’t do them, including demonstrating with the actual components involved so you can see the harm you’re doing.
Jason has a great knack at explaining things in simple terms so they are easy to understand. Check out the video, and if you like it make sure to follow his channel for more videos like this.
