Mercedes have finally revealed their latest sports coupe in the shape of the the Mercedes-AMG GT.
The SLS AMG replacement comes in two models both with an AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine but with different output. The GT with 456 horsepower and the GT S with 503 horsepower. Each is built in Affalterbach following the “one man, one engine” ethos, with the signature of the builder on the engine.
The V8 will take the GT S from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 193 mph. The GT is no slouch either with the same in 3.9 seconds and topping out at 189 mph.
The car sports a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that sends the power to the rear wheels and sits behind the passengers. This arrangement gives the GT a 47/53 front-to-rear weight distribution. There is also a locking differential and sports suspension with aluminum double-wishbone suspension .
On the outside the car features 19-inch wheels, LED High headlamps and daytime running lamps plus an electronically retractable rear spoiler.
Inside Mercedes say they want to make you feel like you are slipping into the cockpit of a fighter jet. Trim choices include choice of silver chrome, matte carbon fiber, high-gloss carbon fiber and matte silver fiberglass.
Standard are collision prevention assist, adaptive braking, Attention Assist, a rearview camera and parking sensors. Both models can also have optional ceramic brakes.
The GT S also comes with electronically controlled damping that has three modes: “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport plus.”
Options on the GT S include forged wheels and special tires.
Expect the 2016 AMG GT S to be available in the US in the first quarter of 2015, with the AMG GT to follow in 2016.
