The 2014 Maserati Ghibli has a starting price of $66,900.
It features a 3.0liter twin-turbo V6 engine produced by Ferrari which can pump out up to 404hp.
There are four versions available. The most powerful one, the Ghibli S Q4, can do 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 175mph. The Ghibli S can do 0-60 in 5 seconds with a similar top speed.
Meanwhile, the entry-level Ghibli manages 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 165mph. A V6 diesel is also being produced, aimed at the European market, which has a top speed of 155mph and can do 0-60mph in as little as 6.3 seconds.
Only the entry-level Ghibli and the SQ4, which has a starting price of $76,900, are currently on sale in the US.
The Ghibli has an 8-speed automatic transmission and can be bought in either rear or all-wheel drive.
The 2014 Maserati Ghibli was named a top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in November 2013.
It is a direct competitor to luxury versions of the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
It is a more sporty car than its larger sister the Quattroporte, but shares much of the same DNA including LED headlights, the same chassis and suspension.
Inside, the Ghibli features an 8in touch-screen control panel as well as WiFi and a up to 15 speakers via a Bowers and Wilkins sound system.
It was introduced as part of Maserati’s plans to sell 50,000 of its cars a year by 2015.
Deliveries to showrooms began across the US in late 2013.
